Smart Photo Selector (Nikon)

This is a new feature on Nikon 1 compact system cameras which takes advantage of their high-speed shooting technologies and image analysis algorithms.

In Smart Photo Selector mode, the camera starts capturing frames as soon as you half-press the shutter button. When you press it fully to take the shot, the camera records up to 20 frames from before you pressed fully and for a few moments afterwards.

It then analyses the image for subjects cut off at the edge of the frame, people blinking and camera shake. The five best images are saved – one is selected as the best shot, and the remaining four are kept in case you want to take a look at them too.

This all happens so quickly and silently that you’re not even aware the camera is shooting all these frames. And it can deliver sharp shots in the most difficult conditions, such as hand-held shooting in city streets at night.
